Throughout my career, I've had the opportunity to work on a range of exciting and immersive game projects.
From crafting engaging in-game narratives and character dialogue in G.I. Joe: War on Cobra to designing expansive campaigns for Star Trek: Legends, and helping bring the rich world of Vikings: Valhalla to life, each project has allowed me to blend my passion for storytelling with the unique challenges of interactive media.
These experiences have deepened my expertise in video game narrative design, shaping dynamic worlds and characters that resonate with players.
Working on my first game, G.I. Joe: War on Cobra, was an exhilarating journey where the world of writing and game design collided in an entirely new way. At the outset, it felt like stepping into a universe of possibilities, where I was tasked with blending the action-packed, larger-than-life narrative of G.I. Joe with the real-time decisions of players.
This was a transformative moment in my career, one where my understanding of scriptwriting expanded from traditional forms to the immersive art of interactive storytelling.
Working on Star Trek: Legends marked a major leap in responsibility and creative scope. No longer just crafting dialogue and in-game barks, I was now at the forefront of designing entire campaigns, each with unique narrative threads, plot twists, and character arcs. Every decision in my scripts had to align with Star Trek's rich lore, and I was also writing with a high level of scrutiny, with CBS approval required for each detail.
This was another game-changing shift, where not only was my creativity but also my ability to work within tight narrative frameworks and collaborate with various stakeholders crucial. The experience took my storytelling skills to new heights as I navigated the complexity of campaign design, world-building, and the intricacies of writing under official guidelines.
Working on Vikings: Valhalla marked the first time I was involved in a game’s narrative from the very beginning of development through to its live release. This new opportunity allowed me to shape the story’s evolution from concept to final execution. Here my script editing skills were put to full use, as I helped the creative director refine and realize the game’s overarching narrative while ensuring it stayed true to the rich Vikings universe.
At the same time, I had to navigate the specific story requirements set by Netflix, balancing creative freedom with the brand’s established vision. This project tested my ability to adapt to the long-term narrative flow and the need for fine-tuned details that were consistent with the game’s goals and Netflix’s guidelines.
